Riot Games paid tribute to a young Valorant (opens in new tab) fan who died of cancer earlier this year with a new gun charm, Corbin's Light, available for free with the current Battle Pass.
Corbin is a teenage Valorant fan who submitted a request through the Make-A-Wish Foundation to work with Riot on the design of Valorant's gun skin. Sadly, he passed away a few days after making the request, but his family shared his wish on social media, and it eventually caught the attention of Riot fans and developers; Valorant's designers contacted Corbin's brother, who shared Corbin's idea.
According to Riot, Corbin's light design was inspired by his love of the stars and the universe and includes the coordinates of a star named after him by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
"Corbin's Light has a deep personal meaning," said Catalina Faerman, associate integration artist at Riot Games, who worked on Corbin's Light (via Instagram (opens in new (opens in new tab)). 'It was created for a player who sadly passed away during her battle with cancer. The Make-A-Wish Foundation named a star after Corbin, so we decided to honor him by creating a Gun Buddy inspired by his star.
"We wanted to create something that he would be proud of and that would also represent him. Thankfully, I had a great concept artist help me come up with the design. We chose blue for the crystal, Corbin's favorite color, and engraved the coordinates of the Make-A-Wish star on the frame. I have only been with the Vallorant team for a short time, so I am honored and grateful beyond words to the team for entrusting me with this task and supporting me. Most of all, I am grateful to Corbin and the players for inspiring us and giving us the opportunity to do the work for them. I am incredibly proud of Corbin's 'light' and will always carry this experience with me."
Corbin's Light is available for free to all players on Valorant's episode 5 act 3 Battle Pass (opens in new tab) Riot Games is also helping families undergoing treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to Riot Games will also make a donation through its Social Impact Fund to the C-Squad Foundation (open in new tab), a charity founded by Corbin's family to help ease the financial burden faced by families undergoing treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
