Amazon's 2020 "Fallout" TV series (opens in new tab) begins production this year, and with 2022 rapidly drawing to a close and the 25th anniversary of the original "Fallout" just around the corner, we finally get our first look at it.

The image Prime Video released on Twitter (opens in new tab) doesn't have much to offer, to be fair: a figure standing at an open vault door, silhouetted against the bright backlight of the wasteland sun. However, that does not mean that nothing can be read from it. First, click on the icon in the upper right corner of the image below to see it at full size:

The most obvious thing is that the people in the foreground of the image are apparently residents of Vault 33. According to the Fallout Fandom Wiki (opens in new tab), Vault 33 has not been explored in Fallout lore: it has only been seen before in Bethesda Pinball; Vault numbers below 50 indicate that it is on the West Coast in Amazon's series.

It is also interesting to note that the August leak (open in new tab) revealed images of the interior of Vault 32, not 33. Also, the signs on the railings (no eating or drinking, silence, restricted movement, etc.) are consistent with signs seen in the same location in Fallout 4

. Someone appears to be lying just inside the door, presumably dead. The figure standing in the doorway appears to be wearing a pip boy on his left arm and holding a pistol in his right hand as he ventures out into the outside world, although it is possible that he is left-handed.

It actually matches well with Fallout 2's intro cinematic, which includes a sequence similar to this Amazon image:

It makes sense that Amazon would want to use a vault with no established history for their show. Not that there is anything significant to be found from this image, but at least it looks like it. This is a good start.

Production on Amazon's "Fallout" series was interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and as of yet no release date has been set. For now, they are optimistic of mid-2023.
