Discord voice chat is coming to PS5.

General
Discord voice chat is coming to PS5.

Discord is doing its best to be a comprehensive voice chat option wherever you play, but it looks like you'll soon be able to chat with even more console buddies.

As The Verge (opens in new tab) discovered, data miner Advaith (opens in new tab) seems to have found evidence that voice chat integration is coming to PS5 in the near future. Unfortunately, there appears to be nothing for PS4 users other than an option to view game activity. This leak follows the Xbox integration (opens in new tab) that was announced to all users in September.

Connecting to voice chat on the console has certainly been a tricky process, with the need to prepare your phone and install the Xbox app, but with the cell phone requirement soon to be removed, even the PlayStation version of Discord's voice with just a few taps Hopefully, you'll be able to jump into the channel with a few taps.

It was only a matter of time before voice integration appeared on Sony's newest console. The publisher made a minority investment in Discord (opens in new tab) last May. Sony president Jim Ryan said the goal is to "bring the Discord and PlayStation experience closer together on consoles and mobile," adding that this year "we want to make it easier for friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate while playing games together. We want to make it easier for friends, groups and communities to hang out, have fun and communicate while playing games together," he added. While the option to link your PlayStation Network account to Discord was added earlier this year, allowing you to view the aforementioned game activity (open in a new tab), voice chat is the real deal that console friends have been waiting for.

As someone who prefers to relax on the couch and console rather than play games at the same desk as at work (hi!) ), the option to easily access Discord voice chat from the PS5 is a welcome one. Of course, it works on my phone, but it's frustrating to have to shove earbuds into my earholes to talk on Discord while having to put the headset on top for game sound. Being able to talk to friends who are gaming on other platforms is never a bad thing.

Assuming this is true, it's still unclear when integration will begin or if it will take months of Xbox-like beta testing; Discord did not confirm the legitimacy of the leak, saying in a statement to PC Gamer that "there is nothing we can share at this time." .
