In August, a greedy holding company known as Embracer Group snapped up several Square Enix studios as part of a $300 million deal. It gobbled up Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montréal, and Square Enix Montréal in one bite and acquired the Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain, and Tomb Raider IPs. The studio behind "Hitman Go," "Lara Croft Go," and "Deus Ex Go" had just changed its name to Onoma in anticipation of the acquisition. The five-month process can be read in the studio's "Brand Story (opens in new tab)."

Bloomberg's sources indicated that some of Onoma's staff will be transferred to Eidos Montreal after the closure.
Other recent Embracer acquisitions include the film rights to The Lord of the Rings, Tripwire Interactive, developer of Killing Floor, Tuxedo Labs, developer of Teardown, and the flashy physical versions of indie games released by Limited Run Games, among others.
