No one is quite sure why "Bloodborne" has not yet been released on PC, but now it has become just another meme. Sony just recently tweeted a close-up photo of Bloodborne and invited people to guess what game it was, but was forced to delete it when rumors again circulated that it was news of a remaster or port. Many of PlayStation's biggest games for PS4 have been ported to PC, but Bloodborne has yet to be found. But as I hold my PS5 in my arms, I lament, "Why do we need a PC version of Bloodborne when we can add the Parry mechanic to The Witcher 3?"
We can all pretend that "Bloodborne" was released on PC with a mod that adds the parry mechanic to "The Witcher 3". If you haven't played "Bloodborne" yet, one of its main features is that it deviates from the rest of FromSoftware's work by eliminating shields; "Bloodborne" got tired of seeing players hiding behind shields and quaking in their boots, looking for an opening, gave hunters something a little more aggressive.
Instead of a shield, he gets a gun. Shooting this gun into an opponent's face at the right moment will stun them and give you the opportunity to unleash a visceral attack instead, a very important technique in "Bloodborne" that can be deadly if you miss, but very satisfying.
One modder at NexusMods added exactly this mechanic to The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, Mugijang's "Bloodborne Gun Parry and Execution" mod (opens in a new tab), which adds another firearm mod to the game It can be downloaded after you have added another firearm mod to the game, and allows you to give parry to both humans and monsters. The timing is also special, as in Bloodbornes: "For Gun Parry to succeed, the bullet must hit the target at the start of the attack." In other words, that's when the red light first appears on the opponent's health bar. Brutal.
Of course, this is like putting a tiny little Star Wars R2D2 bandage on a big internal scar from the PC version of Bloodborne, but at least it's a new way to experience The Witcher 3. In any case, there won't be another Witcher game for a while.
