Electronic Arts has signed a deal with Marvel to produce "at least three new action-adventure games."
The first project being developed as part of the deal is an Iron Man (open in new tab) game in production at EA Motive, which was announced in September. Directed by Olivier Prue, producer of Marvel's "The Avengers" and "Guardian of the Galaxy," the game will "tap into the rich history of Iron Man and draw on Tony Stark's complexity, charisma, and creative talent" in an original story The game will be a third-person, single-player action-adventure game. The Iron Man game was in pre-production at the time of the announcement and no release date has been announced. [Laura Miele, EA's chief operating officer, said, "We have been longtime fans of Marvel and their incredible leadership, and this is an amazing moment not only for our developers, but also for our players and fans. We look forward to welcoming Marvel into the EA family of creators and are confident that this collaboration will create an amazing experience for our players." I can't wait to see players' reactions when they don the Iron Man suit and do the extraordinary things this superhero excels at."
[4Unlike EA's "Star Wars" license (open in new tab), the Marvel deal is not exclusive: for example, former "Uncharted" creative director Amy Hennig is currently working with Skydance New Media on Captain America and Marvel game (opens in new tab) featuring Black Panther. Marvel's parent company is Disney, owner of Star Wars.
Electronic Arts is scheduled to release its fiscal year 2023 second quarter results tomorrow, November 1. We will keep you posted.
