Even now that the sequel has been released, Crusader Kings 2 remains the most played game on Steam, with 585 hours since its release in 2012. It's an easy win these days, "to be honest". I've become so familiar with the game and its systems that any given campaign goes by in a blink of an eye as I rule all of Europe in a sort of genetically perfect demigod demi-immortal dynasty.
Can anyone do anything to make one of my favorite games, "The Trials and Tribulations of Ruling Europe, a little more trials and tribulations?
Introducing Leper Roulette, a crime by CK2 mod Gembleton.
In Nexus Mods' description of Leper Roulette, Gembleton is relatively quiet and gnomes that the mod "causes a random dynasty member to contract leprosy every seven years." Perhaps this is what happened to Baldwin IV.
As in real life, finding a loved one arbitrarily brought down by a plague of biblical bodies makes it really hard to focus on the various administrative tasks and adds a layer of knee-jerk challenges for players to this game that has been on the market for over a decade.
"There's no particular reason," Gembleton says, "why we had this mod made. A quick glance at the file page of the main character, Nexus, shows that he likes to use mods in this vein. One of the mods, GL's Negative Start, has an even more succinct description than Leper Roulette. It simply states, "I want to die."
Gembleton mentions someone named "Lybon" in the author credits and description of Leper Roulette, so perhaps it is all their fault. For dramatic purposes, I choose to imagine Lybon as someone like Killer Bob from Twin Peaks, a malevolent spiritual being who occasionally drives Gembleton to evil.
If you want to experience that evil for yourself, just download Leper Roulette from the Nexus Mods file page and put it in the Crusader Kings 2/mod folder in Documents. If you want to skip the hassle and go straight to the leprosy, you can sign up at Steam Workshop.
