"As We Descend," a rather stylish deck builder from new studio Box Dragon, will be published by Coffee Stain, the same company that brought us hits like "Valheim" and "Deep Rock Galactic."
Self-described as "a roguelike deck builder with the soul of a strategy game," "As We Descend" has a beautiful aesthetic that blends magic and technology in the desperate dystopian city of Vault, the last human outpost in a devastated world.
As We Descend has a roguelike structure, with each expedition from the city consisting of several specialized units of your own. In combat, there are two zones through which units move: the forward defense zone and the rear support zone. The key to success is to move between these two depending on the enemy's intentions.
Another part of the game is to explore the streets of the vaults to "make contacts, gather forces, scavenge ruins, and find valuable resources to gain an advantage against deadly monsters that threaten humanity's existence." These resources are used to repel the attacks of monstrous enemies, which are fantasy creatures that look like a cross between deep-sea coral and mineral beds.
The developer, Box Dragon, was founded by Kevin Chang and Carl Bergstrom, both former developers at Stanrock Studios ("Battlerite"), and Alex Nikonov, a senior character and environment artist from Riot Games. [It feels like just yesterday that we announced Box Dragon's existence," said Kevin Chang, Box Dragon's game director, in a press release. We're excited to begin playtesting the game in closed beta and contributing to the game's development. With the help of passionate players who love the genre and are eager for something new and big, we are confident that we can make As We Descend an S-class roguelike deck builder."
As We Descend can be found on Steam and the official website. If you are interested in the closed beta, you can also sign up on the official website. A release date has not yet been set.
