If you have played Helldivers 2, you have probably been booted to the desktop after unzipping. Usually this bug causes you to return to civilian life prematurely at the end of a mission, which is extra frustrating because it often takes 30 minutes or more to complete a mission. At least if you are a sample-hungry completist like me.
Fortunately, a fix is on the way, as community manager Twinbeard confirmed on the Helldivers 2 Discord: "We are aware of the crashes that many of you are currently facing, mainly around escape/mission completion. We would like to briefly inform you that we are aware of this. A hot fix will arrive shortly."
As for timing, Twinbeard said it is "fairly certain" that it will arrive before the new Warbond, which is scheduled for April 11. Given the unruly nature of game development, there are no guarantees in the land of bug fixes.
In the meantime, Twinbeard gently encourages players to "hang in there or take a break from the game for a while": "I'm not saying take a break. I'm just suggesting it as an alternative in case of frequent crashes until a hotfix is released". That is plausible. There is only so much a community manager (or even a developer) can do.
Regardless, I personally am glad to see this bug go away. It's an unfortunate interruption to the otherwise silky smooth gameplay loop of shooting bots (which are no longer bots, so it's a bug), taking samples, extracting, rinsing, repeating, and saluting the Super Earth flag.
There were several play sessions where the crash made me think, "Okay, let's take a break. This... Honestly, it might be the best. I can now hear binaries in my dreams.
