Geralt's adventures on Netflix finally come to an end: Netflix announced today that it has given the go-ahead for a "fifth and final season" of The Witcher.
"We are very proud to begin filming the final season of 'The Witcher' with a stellar cast, including an exciting new cast, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Livia. We are excited to bring [Anjay Sapkovsky's book to a spectacular and satisfying conclusion. Stay tuned for the conclusion of the story."
Seasons 4 and 5 of The Witcher on Netflix will feature the last (at least for now) three novels in Sapkowski's Witcher saga: The Baptism of Fire, The Tower of Swallows, and The Lady of the Lake.
For the final two seasons, Liam Hemsworth will play Geralt, replacing original series star Henry Cavill, who moved on to other work (Superman, which ultimately did not fly, and Warhammer 40,000) at the end of season 3.
"The Witcher" is in the midst of a major roundup with new cast members including Laurence Fishburne as Regis, Danny Woodburne as Zoltan, Sharlto Copley as Leo Bonhart, and James Purefoy as Skellen.
It has not yet been revealed when Season 4 and Season 5 will air, but it is definitely still a ways off: production on Season 4 is currently underway, so it will not be released until early 2025. Season 3 finished filming in September 2022, but was not released until June 2023, and if the back-and-forth filming schedule goes smoothly (and unless Netflix chooses to split season 4 in two, as it did for season 3), season 5 could follow later that same year. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on early to mid-2026, though.
