This is the year of the AI PC, and this feature, dubbed AI Prompt Builder, will launch a small ChatGPT window at the push of a button that will allow you to paraphrase and summarize blocks of text and perform other actions. And if your current Logitech mouse isn't recognized by your system, don't worry, at least one new model will soon have the ubiquitous AI button.

I confess that I'm quite fond of Logitech mice, namely the MX Master series and my current rodent of choice, the MX Vertical. However, I never cared what the Logi Options+ app had to offer. That may change with the introduction of the AI prompt builder feature in the latest version 1.7 released today (via The Verge).

Basically, it is a simplified interface for using ChatGPT 3.5, or ChatGPT 4 if you have an OpenAI Pro account. By default, the system offers the option to paraphrase or summarize the body of text, along with the ability to generate a reply to something or compose a new email. This is no different than a number of other AI systems that are beginning to be integrated into all aspects of modern PCs, but at least it is not very intrusive.

The AI prompt builder setup process forces you to assign the tool to one of the buttons on your Logitech mouse. Not all models can do this, but I had no problems with my MX Vertical; anyone who has used ChatGPT knows exactly what to expect in terms of the response ChatGPT generates, and I must say that everything went well! I must say that everything went well.

If you like the idea and don't have a mouse with the proper buttons, don't worry, as Logitech will be releasing at least one mouse, the Signature AI Edition M750 Wireless. While the Signature M650 model is $10/£10 cheaper, a regular mouse with a preconfigured button to launch the AI prompt builder seems a bit pricey at $50/£55.

This software feature has a clean, relatively minimalist interface and is a great way for frequent ChatGPT users to quickly jump into the system whenever they need to. On the other hand, adding another button to a standard mouse and charging an extra 10 notes for the privilege is, in my opinion, a bit cheeky.

At this point, it is the calm before the storm, and it won't be long before mice, keyboards, gamepads, headsets, and other peripherals with AI buttons all offer the same functionality. Because this is the year of the AI PC.
