According to a "reliable source" cited by Dualshockers, Creative Assembly is currently working on 3 new Total War games, and 1 of the licensed Star Wars games.

Sega abruptly canceled the Hyena just 2 weeks after the beta, so it makes sense that Creative Assembly has shifted its focus to the most famous series. "Simply put, creative assembly was good at offline games in the rts genre, but we challenged the development of Hyena, an online game in the FPS genre...The game itself was good, but we decided to stop developing Hyena because we did not expect it to reach a quality that would satisfy our users."

Given the total war success: The Warhammer Trilogy is an almost complete bar some DLC, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the series sting in another licensed setting, like Star Wars. And with 3 games reportedly in the works, the other one could be another tie-in as well - perhaps Warhammer 40,000 or Middle-Earth?

This is not about ignoring the possibilities of a more historical game, whether it's an unexplored period or going back to past successes. Maybe it's time for a total war: Medieval 3, or Empire 2. The last historical entry in the series, Total War: Pharaoh has now been expanded, with new factions and significantly larger maps.
