Capcom is good. At a time when most of the gaming industry is in a historic bout of brutal layoffs, studio closures, and various other cost-cutting measures that mysteriously seem to never touch the C-suite, Resident Evil and Street Fighter manufacturers have raised salaries and are now posting its seventh consecutive year of record profits and 11th consecutive year of operating profit growth.
Capcom announced in a press release that net sales for fiscal 2024/3 were ¥152,410 million, or approximately US9979 million (¥784 million, up 21% year-on-year). The breakdown of other revenues, including operating income, ordinary income, and net income attributable to owners of the parent, also increased by double digits.
All responsibility for Capcom's way, led by moolah, the company attributes its results to its "core digital content business." The company sold more games than it ever sold in the previous financial year: 45.89 million. In particular, Capcom called "Street Fighter 6" "leading Capcom's esports activities" and released "Dragon's Dogma 2" as a heavy hitter as an overall result.
I believe both are very good games, but Capcom's biggest earners are given a short shrift here: The Real Cha of the 2023/2024 Fiscal Year Catalog In a presentation released along with its announcement, Capcom was named the top video game seller chart of the fiscal year. It is the first time that we have been able to do so. Resident Evil 4 sold Street Fighter 6 with 3.4 million copies (a cumulative total of 7 million copies sold so far). SF6 sold 3.3 million copies and was slightly short of that.
In addition, Monster Hunter: The world continues to chug together as the 10th or so largest religion in the world: it accounted for third place in the financial year, with 2.8 million copies sold and making sales of 25 million in its lifetime).
Finally, Shout to Dragon Doctrine 2, a deeply idiosyncratic RPG released at barely any time in the fiscal year, has managed to remain and still be Capcom's fourth largest seller with 2.6 million copies sold. I think those microtransactions didn't embarrass people much.
So, yes, Capcom's had the best year since last year, it was the best year since that previous year, and so on. The company predicts that sales of 50 million units will be expected in the next fiscal year (the current fiscal year). An interesting prediction given that the company is out of sorts from the evil of a large popular and universally loved resident to remake. So, hi, let's meet the side of this time is because it will be next year"I promise.
