The Magic: The Gathering comic set in The 90s is finally coming out in English

Magic:The Gathering comics, which were released in the West, included a free digital manga tie-up on the Kamigawa:Neon Dynasty set, but the series, which has been serialized in Monthly Shonen Ace since 2018, has remained exclusively in Japan until now.

Viz Media, the comic publisher that is releasing these lush Magic: The Gathering art books, has announced that the first volume of Magic manga Destroy All Humans: They Can't Be Regenerated will receive an official English release in Fall2024 (according to Barnes & Noble, to be released on 8 May). It also comes with a dedicated magic card, just like the Japanese compilation.

Destroying all humans is not your typical card battle manga. First, it's set in a multiverse of card games, not in an equally fantastical world of the 1990s.The protagonist is a late 90s Japanese 10-year-old student who plays Magic: The Gathering, its early incarnation, so the action dramatizes characters playing iconic cards from earlier eras, such as swords and plowshares.

But it's also a romantic comedy in which two young magic players from the other side of the track slowly find their competition towards love. It's more of a life slice story than a kind of yu-gi-oh!

There are currently 15 volumes of the series available in Japanese, with the latest being released in May. The first volume came with a promotional version of the Devil's Edict Card, and subsequent volumes included cards such as shock, duress, and voltaic keys. Who knows what the English version will include, but old school cards with cartoon style art will be a fun bonus.
