We had a major beef with recent PC gamer slack when, along with everyone else, we discovered that faction choices were persistent in the recently launched shooter's gray zone battles: If you and your gaming buddies signed up on the other side, well, it was too bad: Eventually I did not return until I reset the server, which is a few months down the road.
Believe me, it got ugly here.
It wasn't just us waging an internecine war: Ping a complaint when many other players discover they can't group with friends
Fortunately, for those who choose poorly, there's now an out: The latest fix will wipe out your current character.
"We've listened to your feedback, and the account Wipe option currently lives in the gray zone war,"" wrote developer Madfinger Games." "After wiping it off, all progress will be reset and the game will shut down smoothly. When you restart, you go through the character creation and get the edition's content and Starter Gear again."
You can wipe only the letters at least an hour ago, and there's an hour's cooldown after the wipe, so you'll still want to make sure about wiping in the first place before you lock in anything: "This action is irreversible," Madfinger warned.
The overall character wipe strikes me as something of a nuclear option, but the response overall is very positive. And unsurprisingly, bad faction selector Morgan said, "The fact that you can accidentally lock yourself out of playing with friends was one matter of priority.""This is perfectly correct, but mostly what I (and obviously many others) have to think all-in with certain factions during the character creation process, despite the lack of on-screen warnings, is great in single-player immersive sims, but not in massively multiplayer online shooters." 13]
Madfinger said that the character wipe option also fixes the "missing head/secure container bug" but warned that the problem could recur until a proper fix is released. More generally, this hotfix also fixes "some GPU-related crashes".
Sadly, the ability to change factions corrected one of the most terrible overlook of the Gray Zone war, but it also opened the door to a whole new kind of beef.
