It's a joke that the studio that picks up where Larian left off at Baldur's Gate is pretty doomed. Baldur's Gate3 is already a classic one, and just as we see the great Titans of game development in the 90s and mid-2000s, we look back 10 or 2 years later
But a mind-taking, hypothetical future Baldur's Gate4 developer: Larian once felt like we were in exactly the same position.
Speaking to PLAY Magazine (via GamesRadar), BG3world building director Farhang Namdar revealed that the idea of making a sequel to BioWare's Baldur's Gate2 was once a Larian developer shivering in the boot. "I remember the day Swen [Vincke] told me that the next project would be BG3. I literally went from joy to anxiety in seconds."
That's understandable. Before Baldur's Gate3 gained permanent residency in much of our collective consciousness, Baldur's Gate2 was seemingly unparalleled: A true classic that hadn't seen a sequel for decades, and imagine being told you had to come up with a sequel for it. Why, it's like having to come up with a sequel to Baldur's Gate3.
Namdar says that Larian's staff were joking about making a sequel to Baldersgate "frequently back in the day," which meant that news from Vincke "also had a dream come true." Developing the next installment of this groundbreaking franchise was both a great honor and a lot of pressure.
"We knew we had to make something unique to fulfill our commitment to our fans," Namdar said."
I go out to the limbs and say they pulled it. Jitters or not, Larian finally put out a game that made it very easy to snap up our Game of the Year 2023 awards: It's a series of fruitful torches for so many stars, hi, probably still poor.
