The success of helldivers2's breakout has brought a renewed focus to the game's primary inspiration: Paul Verhoeven's Starship Troopers, loosely Robert Hine Arrowhead, has done a good job of making the Helldivers universe feel like its own, but the film has been on both shoulder pads. With love, the game is packed with references and compliments.

Starship Troopers have generally had a good time late, and modern audiences have rediscovered one of Verhoeven's typical OTT masterpieces, with some semi-decent Starship Troopers games coming up. But it's really gas-stepped Helldivers and has shown an interest in getting involved since the launch of Casper Van Dien, who starred as Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers.

Van Dien recently interviewed Gamology and has seen several clips of Helldivers2 movies and gameplay, offering commentary on the similarities he sees. The video is perfect for a democratic drinking game, referring to how many times Van Dien said along the lines "It's like a Starship trooper."!"By the end your liver will have died for democracy, son.

The big question, of course, is whether there is some kind of collaboration, whether there is a crossover between the two things, in the form of Van Dien recording a few voice lines or being in advertising.

"Of course, I love the idea of Helldivers2 and you'll never know," Van Dien says. "I'm open, you see what happens. I already feel like I'm a part of it. I'm not sure if it's Helldivers2 or a Starship Troopers Extermination game, but that's what I think is cool. Of course, I'm very particular about my spaceship, I love being Johnny Rico, but in general it looks pretty good on [Helldivers2] as well."

Van Dien sees most of this video going on in Helldivers2 and laughs about how similar it is to certain scenes and details in Starship Troopers, but here's the meaning

"Starship Troopers have a planet called Clendatu, and Helldivers have a planet called Clendatu." There's this planet called Clenders II in Size 2," Van Dien laughs. "Then Starship Troopers also talk about Zegema Beach...And they have Zegema Prime. I see all of it, I see the way guys talk, what they say, I see bugs, and it's such a compliment to the Starship Troopers It's really very great.

In particular, one of the compliments will appeal to Van Dien.1 Johnny Rico has a "death from above" tattoo, which consists of words surrounding a triangular stylized skull. And Helldiver 2 has its own death from the top of the emblem, showing the Helldiver pod that was shot down from the destroyer.

"One of the biggest gifts in the world of Starship Troopers is death from the tattoo on top that I keep seeing here. "At one point I was going through a divorce and the whole crew, they didn't tell me, they all got death from the tattoo secretly and above, you know the press. And for our last cast photo, we all did death from above, it was a last minute thing, I do not believe you guys did this

Well Van Dien certainly sounds like he would be up for some Helldiving and it would be a great way to the game. It's nice to see that his main reaction is gratitude for the new surge of interest in the film from 27 years ago. Also, this guy is aging incredibly well, so that's what a clean living democracy can do for you. Van Dien was finally asked which score to give Heldivers 2, and his patriotic answer is no surprise: "I'm going to give it to 10/10."
