Have you ever thought about why you'll find so many powerful and powerful magic items at Baldur's Gate3 "No, really — most of the places you've delved into Why 9 hell has an esoteric equivalent of a fully functioning glock in the chest of a deep wilderness?
There are real, honestly Mystra D&D lore justifications for this, and they kindly involve the old wizard. This isn't demonstrated in the game, but it's a hell of a deep cut that justifies why I keep finding cloaks fascinated by corpses.
As discovered by Surroundbulky4109 in the game's subreddit (thanks, TheGamer), the 26-year-old book passage "The Temptation of Elminster," Ed Greenwood details Elminster's own adventures as one of Mystra's chosen 1. Elminster, of course, will appear on stage as an old friend of Baldersgate 3 Gail and as the bearer of Fallon's worst fantasy text messages from the original at the top of Act 2.
The passage itself continues as Elminster enters the Moon Dark basement. Not to steal it, but to add wealth to it. Hilariously, it reads:
"Eaergladden Moondark had died poor, buying roasted birds and begging his relatives for some copper...But who saved one Elminster,"he then put a cane, a spell, and a dagger into the grave for later adventurers to find.
"This work took much of his time in the service of Mystra, these days, in her bid, Elminster traveled to faerún visiting the ruins and graves of the dead sorcerers, planting "old" scrolls, spelling books, minor enchanted items, and even the occasional staff for later people to find...And all such leavings were true items that she just finished grafting, and made to look old."
So not only are magic items that most D&D players find complete forgery from the Magic Mother herself, but they are also not antiques. While Elminster's generosity is great for tomb invaders, it must have caused havoc for well-meaning historians to put together the history of the Fern.
The reason 'Mystra just wants magic to multiply, rather than "in the hands of some archwizards lording it over a spell-poor or magically barren, days of the lost Netheril" Don't delve too much to avoid spoilers but consider Gale's state of Baldur's Gate3. The plot against Netheril in Mystra is alive almost 26 years later.
Given his involvement in the story of the game, it's very likely — for most of the items you haven't already found - the legendary creature — Elminster Claus so you have it: I'm obviously a futzy to thank for the gear that turned my honor mode bard into an absolute monster. Has an old wizard
