Sandbox Farm Simmerswood will make you bring your pet to a fight with you

It's very common for Farm Sims to quote Stardew Valley as an inspiration, while Mirthwood is definitely, but it's not very common to see the names drop Fable, The Sims and RimWorld. This upcoming sandbox-y farm sim RPG is definitely going to check a lot of boxes to give us farmlife sim lovers as much freedom as possible.

The new trailer is a reflection of what we learned about Marswood last year, like its simulation-focused world where villagers go about their daily schedules, weather and disasters that could strike, and socialization systems where you can gain and lose favor with neighbors through different behaviors. Re-hash some. What the trailer expands is the number of refining stations you have access to, buying livestock from the market and paying local town residents to work on your property.

One of the biggest bits from the new trailer is the winter season when it gridless other heavyweights showing off through the interior and also by drawing stone paths to the ground in free editing mode, you'll have to prepare to slaughter your animals for food or otherwise face.

However, what I personally am most interested in is a feature not mentioned in the trailer or in the latest blog post about Marswood farming. Hiding in the trailer's press release is the mention of a "companionship" system for your animals, not just other human characters.  They can travel with players, assist in battles and adventures, and even engage in falconry, adding a unique layer of strategy and bonds," Bad Ridge Games says. I already knew there would be a lot of fighting outside the village limits of Marthwood, but it would be great to bring my four-legged friend as a combat companion.

Mirthwood has been making occasional development blog posts about the feature over the past year as we look forward to launching it. A release date has not yet been determined, but it is expected to be in the second half of 2024.
