Concord has skipped free-to-play and pulled Helldivers2 instead:$16 for a complete game with all 40 heroes at launch

Following last week's reveal of Sony's big multiplayer FPS, we now know for sure that Concord is taking a less traveled path with live-service games, Concord can't play for free and instead get into the door chargingド40.

Its one-time purchase gets you all 16 Launch Heroes and pre-orders come with beta access in a month for you and four friends. There's also a Deluxe60 Deluxe edition that comes with a skinset and three days of early access, but I'm out on my hands and feet and no one should pay 50% extra for that Concord will be launched simultaneously on PC and PS5 — both Steam and Epic Game Store pages are open to the public.

Releasing a big budget, multiplayer-only shooter for the price ahead is almost unheard of calls outside of duty these days, but it's clear what playbook PlayStation is pulling from. Sony released Helldivers2 on the same platform for the same price, and its 12 million sales enhanced what we all knew, but the industry had forgotten in the post-Fortnite world: people would pay for great multiplayer shooters that don't nickel and dime them .

We still don't know if Concord is great or if it will soon be packed with exciting microtransactions even though it costs440, but we know that you don't have to pay extra for a full roster, like Apex Legends or Valorant. Concord's standard edition comes with a "complete Concord experience" that includes all 16 playable free runners, 12 unique maps set in different worlds, and 6 different team-based game modes. These game modes are extended immediately after launch, and all players are regularly updated after launch at no extra cost.

The Steam page makes it clear what kind of FPS Concord is. Under the header "Mode for all moods", Firewalk says that Concord has a variety of objective and "respawn-based" modes. Whether relaxing in a few matches or teaming up with friends for a more competitive experience — "Let me determine the level of challenge you're looking for

Concord's revealing common reaction was to call it an 'overwatch clone', but I chose different modes depending on my mood." Hopping through a bunch of different modes sounds like a modern arena shooter like Call of Duty or Halo. Remember when multiplayer games had a lot of modes'Most shooters were designed like a tree — in any number of modes today, the biggest FPSes (Siege, Overwatch, Apex) are designed more like a funnel — one format they were created around, and one format they were created around, and one format they were created around, and one format they were created around, and one format they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they were created around, they It works very well on the web, but becomes unstable when traditional formats like team deathmatch and capture the flag are mapped to them.

I really want Concord to be the former. The shooter, organized like a tasting menu, is my bread and butter at the moment: Halo: Infinite, The Finals, Battlefield2042, Call of Duty (The Year of the Good Cod). It's not a particularly crowded space, so if the concord is played not just as it looks, it can be bigger than anyone would expect.

Firewalk is running beta on both PC and PS7 on May. You need to order in advance to access it, but you don't have to wait long for the whole game if you wait: Concord will release on 8/23.
