The “Orcs Must Die” series will return next year. With “Orcs Must Die Deathtrap,” the fifth title in the series from developer and publisher Robot Entertainment. In this new installment, players will work alone or as a team of up to four to battle waves of oncoming enemies in third-person action gameplay. In this title, players will “evolve through a roguelike progression” while defeating hordes of orcs.
The trailer unveiled four characters: an elf with a crossbow, a staff-wielding Sorceress, a gun-toting woman, and a big angry bear. According to Robot Entertainment, “Each hero is tailored to a different play style and can act alone or work with complementary heroes to create a diverse and powerful orc-slaying experience.”
Following the combination of quirky comedy, trap-based, third-person shooter, and melee combat that made “Orcs Must Die” such a popular game, “Deathtrap” adds a “never play the same way twice” twist. Difficult orc waves are accompanied by “random buffs and debuffs that affect heroes, traps, weapons, stats, and even the level itself.” Between waves, players can push forward for greater rewards or retreat to their bases for power-ups.
“We are pleased to announce the latest installment in the ‘Orcs Must Die!’ franchise. Our goal has always been to push the boundaries of fun and creativity, and with Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, we've taken on the challenge of bringing innovation to a 13-year-old franchise. While staying true to the traditional chaotic action and lighthearted tone, we introduced four-player co-op, new and diverse heroes with deep and unique abilities, expanded level variety, and new rogue-like progression options. The game is all about delivering the most exhilarating orc-slaying experience ever.
“Orc Must Die!” style, this indie series has been going on since the first game was released in 2011. The latest in the series is Orcs Must Die 3 in 2020.
Orc Must Die: Deathtrap will be released on Epic and Steam in “early 2025.”
