Do you know what's out there?” dichotomous morality in RPGs. You know what's in?” a vast and complex constellation of individual ‘reputations,’ measuring what certain factions, towns, and individuals you come across think of you; it worked in Fallout: NewVegas, and any game that makes you want to shove a light side/dark side meter in it. It will work.

And it works in The Witcher 3. Or it will, if a modder named FreakVip has anything to say about it. They have created a mod called “Reputation System” (via IGN) that promises to change the game so that “Geralt's choices and actions” will affect the new rating point system, which in turn will affect “all activities” of the White Wolf.

The mod will add Geralt's reputation level across five areas: Temeria (White Orchard and Velen), Nilfgaard (Wijma and Army Camp), Redania (Novigrad, Oxenfurt and the area beyond the Pontal River), Skellige, Toussaint ( (from Blood & Wine DLC). They range from “unlikable” to “respectable,” and the lower the level, the more difficult the life of the Witcher protagonist becomes, as one might expect.

How difficult is mostly limited to financial issues, as the voice actors from The Witcher 3 cannot be brought back to the booth to record new dialogue specific to their reputation. Being disliked in the area means paying 30% extra for an item, accepting 70% less for a sale, having difficulty negotiating, and having a lower chance of winning a gamble. Being respected, on the other hand, reverses all of that: goods will be cheaper and people will buy more of your stuff.

How you gain or lose reputation is self-evident. If you do something that annoys the security guards in the area, i.e., if you get grumpy or steal, you lose points. On the other hand, if you solve a quest in a way that favors the inhabitants of the area, they will naturally be more amenable to you. Completing a contract with a monster, winning a horse or boat race, or winning a fistfight also works the same way in real life.

This is a clever and fairly simple way to make the Witcher 3 world a bit more responsive and compatible with the latest patch version (4.04). If you want to try it out, just download it from Nexus Mods and move it to the main folder of the game. So, best regards.
