Failbetter Games has announced that their "Fallen London" video game world is coming soon to the adjacent tabletop role-playing world, which Failbetter says is "an authentic custom tabletop role-playing system, and it's a big book," he says. So get ready to explore Neath and its metropolis Fallen London in the year 2025.
"In Fallen London: The Role-Playing Game, players create their own characters from the city's factions, archetypes, and settings. They are united by a shared ambition: an almost unattainable goal. Such ambitions may ruin and drive mad those who pursue them. ...... or even change London forever. As they say, the heart is the engine of destiny," says the official description.
"Fallen London will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2025 and this is our big anniversary project. Thanks to all of you, we have made it this far. We hope this will be a fitting gift to commemorate the occasion," Failbetter said in his announcement.
Failbetter gave more information about "Fallen London": on August 23, a live stream on Johnny Chiodini's YouTube channel will reveal the entire project. The stream will feature Chiodini, an avid streamer of tabletop games, and representatives from Failbetter and tabletop game publishers.
The tabletop RPG Fallen London will be published by Magpie Games. They are still working on small indie games that are quite bespoke, but are now well known as a major IP publisher. Their most successful game is the official tabletop RPG of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which was the most funded tabletop role-playing game ever on Kickstarter, totaling nearly $10 million. [Fallen London, the eponymous free browser game world, was launched in 2010 and remains popular to this day. It then became the setting for the fun doomed ocean captain simulator Sunless Sea in 2015 and the equally doomed space train engineer simulator Sunless Skies in 2019.
