Helldivers 2 CEO Goes Straight to the Water Tap, Asks Reddit Think Tank for Ideas on How to Spend Huge In-Game Resources

"Helldivers 2" seems to be getting back on track after a launch that I hesitate to describe as a roller coaster ride at first.

A sensible solution would be a slower but more comprehensive update, such as "Escalation of Freedom," which will be released next week, as evidenced by Arrowhead's rather fresh CEO asking Reddit for help with the next few updates seem to be bowing to making sure they are added to the game's core system.

Shams Jorjani, who took over in May, has the blessing of the game's designers and promises that he is "not running a wild business suit venture here." And after purchasing all the game's upgrades, he admits that he has nothing to spend, and most eager patriots will sit on a pile of vouchers like Scrooge McDuck with a rocket launcher.

"We have our own designs and ideas, but we would love to hear yours. Eventually we will make a formal survey on how to solicit these opinions, but for now we are just asking for your help as humble geeks."

However, Jorjani cautions readers not to "interpret this as a promise or indication that things may or will change, or that your ideas may be used," which, well, the Helldivers 2 wise, given that the community is, for better or worse, quite passionate.

Frankly, I think this crowdsourcing attempt is a pretty decent success. As user SiccSemperTyrannis sums it up best, the bottom line is the idea of being able to donate resources to a community-wide modifier that helps galactic warfare and provides universal benefits to players. Alternatively, single mission boosts could be cashed in for divers at the end of the day who have too many space rocks.

There are some other neat suggestions, for example weapon attachments, but in my opinion it is just a wayward idea; what Helldivers 2 really needs is a sustainable money sink, and for that we need to see how MMOs tend to handle that

The above proposal is a good start.

The above suggestions fit nicely into the "consumables" part of that equation. Most MMORPGs ask players to collect food, weapon whetstones, and stacks of potions, not because it adds complexity to the game (although it is an added bonus), but because doing so gives players a reason to keep spending money after they already have everything they want It's because it gives them a reason to keep spending money after they've already gotten everything they want (it also helps keep digital inflation in check, but Helldivers 2 doesn't have that problem).

As for what Giorgiani brought to the public forum: "My proposal (which was rejected) was to copy the Goldeneye64 modifier and enjoy unlocking missions. Or hang [creative director Johan] Pilestedt in one of the tanks, and when you achieve XXXXX, dump him, used or not, in the tank." Poor guy. I wonder if he's going to be Joel's food.
