With “Star Wars Outlaws” just two weeks away from release (August 30 is the real deal), Ubisoft has outlined the official PC system requirements and the PC-specific features available with compatible hardware.
Running “Star Wars Outlaws” on the “Ultra” setting requires some pretty heavy hardware, but the rest of the environment is reasonably forgiving. Of course, one of the great things about PC gaming is that you can tinker: turn this up, turn this down, and so on, until you are happy with the balance between eye candy and performance, or at least until you can hold out until you can upgrade your rig.
What's interesting about these specs is that, as hardware writer Jeremy Laird wrote earlier this month when the basic requirements were first posted on the Ubisoft store, “upscaling is the new normal. To meet Ubisoft's frame rate goals, even at minimum settings, upscaling techniques such as DLSS and FSR are required, which means that the game will run at a lower resolution than the specs and then be upscaled.
While not a major problem in itself, some low-end GPUs may suffer more than expected - note, for example, that the Intel Arc GPU is only listed at the “minimum” setting. Unlike Nick, I'm no hardware expert, but it makes me think that it might be wise to treat the “recommended” specs as a minimum, at least until the game has been out for a while and we know how others perform.
Anyway, speaking of tinkering, here's a look at some of the PC-specific features found in “Outlaws”:
“Extensive customization options” is a bit vague, so here's a still from the PC version of the gameplay trailer to give you an idea of what's available Picture this:
