Listen, teardowns look great. But while there are plenty of ways to turn a building into rubble, eventually you will run out of things to tear down. Thankfully, developer Dennis Gustafson confirmed today that the demolition sandbox will be released along with its own level editor.
"Teardown" will be released next week along with its own set of levels created by the developer, but there's nothing like putting your heart and soul into a creative work before swinging the hammer down.
According to Gustafsson's tweet, Teardown allows users to create their own maps using MagicaVoxel, a free voxel modeling tool. As modeling software goes, it is fairly easy to get started (think Microsoft Paint in 3D).
One of the coolest things about Teardown is how it simulates different materials. Wood splits, metal bends, and stone shatters. Fortunately, it seems easy to set up materials in a production by assigning different colors to each in the voxel editor.
I've been glued to Gustafson's ongoing GIFs and vids for the last year, and Teardown's destructive heist looks to be a great successor to Red Faction: the architectural carnage of Red Faction: Guerrilla is going to be a great successor to Teardown, which launches next Thursday, October 29, on Steam Early Access.
