Mojang has announced that it will be adding an entirely new mob type to the blocky Minecraft world, and while Mojang has created and shortlisted three new quirky creatures, it's up to fans to decide which ones will ultimately be released.
Players can cast their votes during the Minecraft Live livestream event this weekend, October 3. During the live stream, voting will take place on the official Minecraft Twitter account.
Such voting has become quite common for Mojang. Players were able to vote for a new biome at last year's Minecraft Live, and fans also voted for the new undead mob Phantom at 2017's Minecon Earth. Thankfully, there are no creepy undead mobs on this latest ballot, and the curious creatures up for deliberation this time around are the Icelogger, Moo Bloom, and Glow Squid.
Iceologer: A new Eraser type is a hostile mob called the Iceologer that inhabits Minecraft's snowy mountain biome. If you spot their patrol and get too close, they will throw a cloud of ice at you. As if Mojang didn't think the mountain terrain wasn't difficult enough.
Moo Bloom: This is my type of mob. Moobrooms are described as "gentle creatures" with yellow flowers blooming from their backs. They seem to resemble your average Minecraft cow, but can also interact with bees.
Glow Squid: The Glow Squid may look a little scary, but it is a calm mob that will not attack; according to Mojang, it is most visible in dark waters due to its luminous skin.
Mojang plans to release an informational video about each mob type later this week. There is also a discussion and a full-fledged campaign poster on the Minecraft subreddit.
