The Nvidia RTX 3080 launched yesterday, and for the five of us who were able to get our hands on the card, there was only one question: could we get it?
While that may have been true at the time, today the new Nvidia Ampere-based card seems capable of surpassing it.
On average, just over 7 fps.
Yes, with the RTX 3080 running the new "Can you run Crysis?" mode at 4K, with all the bells and whistles raytraced, the new GPU can hit a whopping 37.46 fps. The majestic video can be viewed below or on YouTube.
We threw one third-party card into the new Crysis Remastered GPU benchmark with everything pushed to its limits, including hardware-based ray tracing and the highest resolution the 55-inch Philips Momentum monitor can manage The result was a very impressive performance. This is the frankly huge Colorful iGame Advanced RTX 3080, a triple-slot, triple-PCIe power connection card that really weighs down my test rig. [Average power consumption was 319W with a peak of 386W. This is only the power consumption of the board, not the platform; Nvidia provides a PCAT power measurement tool that allows me to get readings directly from the power connector, so I can see exactly how much power the card as a whole is drawing.
As I said, even at maximum settings, I'm not too enamored with the way the game looks, but when I actually play the game, it looks pretty sharp at ground level. Still, do you want to go back 13 years just to punish your graphics card?
