Lord of the Fallen 2 was announced six years ago, shortly after the release of its predecessor. With a third studio now in place, it may have been a bit premature. Today, publisher CI Games announced that a new developer will be at the helm.
The first Lords of the Fallen was developed by Deck13 and CI Games, with the latter embarking on the sequel alone; by 2017 the team had been scaled back and the scope of the game reduced; CI Games was concerned that it had become too ambitious, and also that the " Sniper Ghost Warrior 3" had suffered from poor reviews.
The following year, another developer, Defiant Studios, was invited to start from scratch. At the time, CI Games CEO Marek Tymiński said he was "impressed by their game concept, production expertise, and developer pedigree." A year later, Defiant's contract was terminated, apparently because of the quality of the vertical slice the company produced; CI Games stated in a press release that "despite three calls to improve the quality of work at this stage, the quality of work was exactly as stated in the contract As stated, it was lower than the company's expectations."
The company also stated.
For the fourth year in a row, there have been significant changes. Currently Hexworks is developing RPGs, but this time it is a studio opened by CI Games; CI Games has been silent, but Hexworks will open in March with a new team and will focus exclusively on action RPGs such as Lords of the Fallen 2 It is.
Details on the sequel, which will likely start from scratch for the third time, are scarce, but it will apparently lean toward dark fantasy and be more "Dark Souls"-like overall. Well, "Mortal Shell" seems to have worked.
CI Games recently raised €5.7 million from investors, which may help it avoid falling into the same situation it fell into in 2017.
It was a tough and meandering path for a sequel to a game that was just fine. It's a decent, albeit derivative, action-RPG that had major performance issues at launch. Check out Tyler's Lords of the Fallen review to see how he got on.
