Sci-fi strategy game Star Dynasties debuted a new trailer at gamescom Star Dynasties is an empire-running grand strategy game that focuses on the drama between powerful clans of space nobility. Here are the relevant parts of Iceberg Interactive's show:
Star Dynasties clearly learns from the blend of procedural narrative and grand strategy that made Crusader Kings 2 so successful. The focus of the game is on a galaxy of human colonies, divided after the loss of Earth. Feudal structures have taken root in the power vacuum, and you will manage a new aristocratic clan trying to carve out a fiefdom in the midst of the chaos.
The publisher describes the setting this way: "Just as humanity took its first steps into space, the catastrophic destruction of Earth plunged the galaxy into a new dark age. Centuries later, the few surviving colonies have stabilized into simple feudal societies, unable to understand or advance the technological artifacts needed to survive. The fate of the scattered fragments of humanity is determined by infighting among the aristocratic elites.
Matching the economics and logistics of the science fiction stage with the political and personal power struggles of feudal politics seems like a strong bet. At least it worked in "Dune" and "Battletech". If you want to know more, there is a three-part developer diary on YouTube. [With the release of "Crusader Kings 3" this week, interest in scenario strategy games is sure to spike. Star Dynasties is developed by Pawley Games and published by Iceberg Interactive. until its release in 2021. Keep an eye on Star Dynasties.
