On Twitter, the official Asus ROG global account posted a semi-mysterious image of what will be announced next week. At first glance, it certainly looks like a keyboard switch, so let's call it a keyboard switch.

What makes this intriguing is that the Asus ROG is linked to a countdown timer until September 1 at 2 pm EST. This is just the same day as Nvidia's GeForce special event, where the GPU maker is expected to announce its next generation of Ampere-based graphics cards.

Asus is also planning a Meta Buffs launch event on the same day. One would think that this would be the company's chance to announce a third-party Ampere card, but perhaps there is more in store for gamers.

Keyboards and graphics cards do not have much in common, except that both are used with PCs. Announcing a keyboard switch on the same day seems like an odd decision, as it would overshadow Nvidia's new GPUs.

Interestingly, there is a separate countdown timer for the "Built for Brilliance" event on September 2 at 1:00 PM ET. The background image for that countdown timer matches the background of the teaser image.

In any case, the ROG logo can be seen on the keyswitches, suggesting that these are probably custom designs rather than Cherry MX switches. The central stem also differs from the Cherry switches and closely resembles Logitech's Romer-G switches; in a Twitter thread, some users believe they may be hot-swappable switches.

Our best guess is that Asus is preparing its own optical switch, given the lack of visible metal pins protruding from the back of the casing in the photo. However, it may simply be an oversight in this particular rendering.
