Now that the release date for Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access has been set (barring any problems), it's time to see if your PC can actually run it. So Larian Studios has updated the Steam page for BG3 with new information about the game, including a first look at the system requirements.
The recommended specs are a bit high, but the minimum should be manageable for most PC gamers. Also note that these are not final numbers: Larian stated on Twitter that the system requirements are "subject to change," and indeed the Steam page states that both the minimum and recommended setups "may increase during Early Access as performance
and that this "may decrease as performance improves over the course of Early Access.
And here are the requirements:
Kobolds
Bullets
A bit of RPG trivia: Kobolds are chosen to represent the minimum requirements because they are generally considered weak fodder for low-level characters. Brett, on the other hand, is powerful and feared, so we chose him to represent the recommended system. During today's livestream, Larian said that one of them will actually appear in the Early Access version of Baldur's Gate 3. In the Pathfinder setting, however, the kobolds generally tame the Bullets and use them to help dig tunnels, mine, or raid enemy settlements; in D&D, this is not the case and they instinctively kill everything in sight, which I thought was an interesting coincidence.
The Steam page for Baldur's Gate 3 has other details about the Early Access release: roughly 25 hours of gameplay covering the first act, five Origin characters, six classes, and nearly full functionality.Larian is stated that there are no plans to increase the price from Early Access to the full release, and warned that players seeking a "polished experience" should avoid it.
"Early Access gives us a chance to get a quick taste of what the gameplay will be like, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us. We've done our best to remove the most annoying bugs and optimize the game as much as possible, but there are still many issues and fixing them will take time," the Early Access FAQ states. The Early Access FAQ states. Otherwise, it would be best to wait until version 1.0 is released."
Baldur's Gate 3 is scheduled to launch on Steam Early Access on September 30, but Larian boss Swen Vincke said during today's launch day live stream that if there are major problems with the optimization process, the release could be delayed further He warned.
