"One size fits all" doesn't always work. If you have been burned by that selling point in the past, you might be interested in the new Mad Catz R.A.T. Pro X3 Supreme.

This is an "exhaustive" number of combinations, which, as Mad Catz readily admits, is precisely the point.

"You don't have to buy a gaming mouse for everyone; we can make a gaming mouse just for you," Mad Catz explains.

To that end, this limited edition rodent (essentially a themed version of the regular R.A.T. Pro X3 in honor of the Chinese Year of the Rat) features three different palm rests, two sizes and materials for pinky rests, two sets of thumb rests, a customizable scroll wheel, and ceramic or Teflon feet, offering different levels of slip resistance with the choice of ceramic or Teflon feet.

Users can also replace the scroll wheel with their preferred material and adjust the tension and speed.

In addition to being highly configurable, the X3 Supreme features the PixArt PWM3389 optical sensor, which offers up to 16,000 DPI, 400 inches per second tracking, and a maximum reporting rate of 3,000 Hz (0.3 ms).

It also has 10 programmable buttons, and the primary clicker boasts Omron switches that can withstand 50 million clicks. Of course, RGB lighting is also included (and customizable).

The X3 Supreme is an attractive mouse on paper (I have not tested it myself, nor have I tested the regular version). However, of all the customization options the X3 Supreme offers, only one is not compatible with left-handed gamers; Do'h! Perhaps Mad Catz is saving that for a mouse that offers 109 possible combinations.

Mad Catz did not say when the mouse would be available or how much it would cost.
