The strategy and tactics RPG Battle Brothers is getting a new expansion, Blazing Deserts, which will be released on August 13. Last year's expansion added the vast frozen north, and this year's will add a southern land of city-states, advanced science learning, and a rather nasty-looking sun god. In addition to these new locations, new non-combatant recruits, surviving end-game crises, and period-appropriate medieval firearms will be added.
Did you hear that? I'm talking about handguns, firelances, and mortars. That's nice.
In addition to new lands, you can earn money fighting in new arena battles. You can also play as a team of southern mercenaries or ex-gladiators with special new origins. Giant snakes will also make an appearance. Who doesn't like giant snakes?
When Battle Brothers was released in 2017, we liked it very much and gave it 84/100 in our review. In the summer after its release, Evan Lahti even wrote a tribute to the game.
"'Battle Brothers' made me feel like every win and every loss was mine and personal, without fear of being exposed to threats I hadn't leveled up to." Reminds me of Mount & Blade, one of the truly "bottomless" sandboxes you can play on a PC, and the more you chew, the more flavor you get out of it. I think it's a great comparison.
Battle Brothers can be checked out and purchased on their official website. It is also on Steam for 50% off during the summer sale.
