It's time for the next rotation of free games in the Epic Games store. This week it's all about strategy, and we get both Pathway and The Escapists 2. While Pathway is about breaking into tombs and fighting cultists, Nazis, and bandits to get to Indiana Jones, The Escapists 2 is about planning a great escape from prison will spend its time planning a great escape from the prison. These games are available at 4 p.m. BST / 8 a.m. PDT / 11 a.m. EST.
The first Escapists game was already available for free in stores over six months ago. Even if you didn't get The Escapist, you won't miss out on the story if you play the sequel, and The Escapist improves on its predecessor in several important ways, giving you a good starting point. By gathering resources, working out in the gym, and observing the rotation of guards, you can meticulously plan your Great Escape and escape alone or with a friend in local or online multiplayer.
The Escapists 2 offers no major changes, but it does offer a new prison, an improved combat system, and more diverse escape options.
Pathway is a strategy game in the vein of XCOM by German developer Robotality, released just last year. It does not stand out among the many turn-based strategy games out there, but it is a good option for those who are new to the genre and are looking for something not too complicated. Also, the game has some really gorgeous pixel art.
Both games are free until June 25, but what they will be replaced with has not yet been announced.
Update: If you're wondering why The Escapists 2 is still listed as "coming soon," there's a little happening. But it is getting closer! We will update again when it is released to the public.
