Long thought to have been buried in the sands of the American Southwest like a legendary golden city, the Desperados series has reappeared in Desperados 3. Frankly, this metaphor cannot last more than one sentence, so I will abandon it here.
The game is due out June 16, and publisher THQ Nordic has come up with some quirky ideas to promote the game. One is an interactive trailer that highlights the tactical options underlying the real-time tactics and stealth combo genre.
Closer to home for me is this second trailer, consisting of a painted miniature diorama by master artist Clemens Wirth and a nice western scene.
Desperados 3 is a "story-driven hardcore tactical stealth game" and a prequel to the PC game classic Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive. In this game, you control various outlaws from the Wild West, each with unique abilities, and face off against them in real time. This type of gameplay is done really well in "Shadow Tactics," the last game we looked at: for those of us who like to make clever plans in strategy and tactics games, more games in this genre will be a welcome addition.
Desperados 3 will be released on June 16, and you can watch the gameplay trailer here; it's available on Steam and at various retailers, and on the official Desperados 3 website. In the meantime, I'm going to go look at some more cowboy minis; I'm sure I'll be able to find a few more.
