Edmund McMillen, creator of "Super Meat Boy" and "The Binding of Isaac," is trying his hand at another physical card game.

He had the idea for "Tapeworm" in mind since the development of "Super Meat Boy" until the successful Kickstarter for "The Binding of Isaac": however, the card game, "The Binding of Isaac:. Four Souls" Kickstarter was a success, and they decided to make the prototype something that everyone could play.

Tapeworm is a "space" card game for 2-4 players in which everyone tries to dispose of their hand by growing or cutting up grotesque intestinal parasites. Players can continue to play cards as long as there are tapeworm segments left corresponding to the worms they are trying to raise. [McMillen explains that he wanted to create something that his nieces and nephews could play with." They are really small, so we wanted to make something simple like Uno, but with depth so that adults could play with it."

Slight complexity is added by the ability to cut worms to make room for new cards, exchange cards with opponents, and force opponents to draw cards. The most advanced strategy is to simply create a fully connected worm, which allows the player to discard two cards from his hand.

Worms are also excellent worms and a bit cute, although I'm not too keen on letting them squirm around inside me. They have a lot of silly faces. McMillen promises, "I'll make one that looks like it's crying."

The piece appeared on Kickstarter today, with McMillen soliciting $25,000. It took no time at all and is now rapidly approaching the $100,000 pledge. There are still 30 days to go. So far, only two stretch goals have been identified: 100 percent and 200 percent fundraising. If these are met, backers will receive a limited sticker set and a small poster.

Since the prototype was designed several years ago and is already playable, backers will not have to wait too long to purchase it.
