Fallout 76 Wastelanders was delivered last week, refreshing Appalachia with new quest lines, dialogue options, and several new human factions. Wastelanders is a major update that has been in the works since the launch of Fallout 76, but it's never too early to ask what's coming next.
And that's what people did earlier today in a Reddit AMA with Fallout 76 project lead Jeff Gardiner and lead designer Ferret Baudoin.
Now that human settlers, raiders, and companions are coming to Fallout 76, Reddit member AzarianCouncil asked an important question: are pets coming soon?"
"Something edible? Just kidding," Gardiner said." Now that the game has a companion system, we are considering adding pets."
[8Pets in Fallout 76 would be a great addition, especially for players who (like me) usually solo; Fallout 76's new allies are great for protecting your base and having a little chat with you, but they don't come along on adventures. If pets are added to Fallout 76, I hope they won't be limited to your camp.
It's like I already have a pet, thanks to the Mysterious Stranger perk, a trenchcoat friend who occasionally shows up to fire a few shots at the enemy, only to quickly disappear again, much like Dogmeat in Fallout 4, It would be great to have a more loyal and faithful sidekick.
In a separate response, Gardiner said that we can expect to see new NPCs, story lines, and companions in "Fallout 76" in the future. He also stated that Bethesda "will patch the next patch, scheduled for May, to allow you to dress up your companion with costumes you find."
What else can we look forward to, Reddit member PiLLaYa asked, "Will there be story DLC in the future related to the Enclave or Brotherhood of Steel?"
asked.
"Let's just say that the Brotherhood is now closely monitoring the wastelands of West Virginia..." Gardiner replied. Currently, Fallout 76 allows for Brotherhood of Steel quests via terminal input, but it appears that in the future we may see the Brotherhood actually stomping around Appalachia.
Some other tidbits: the perk loadout system is a feature "we're looking to implement this year," and a more robust respec system is something "we hope to work on in the next few months." And as always, Bethesda is looking to increase camp budgets and allow players to build larger, more elaborate bases. A new roadmap outlining everything planned for Fallout 76 over the next year will also be announced in the near future.
