Legacy board games are among the most popular and innovative games on the tabletop today, using a mechanic that permanently changes the game and board from session to session. Charterstone is the brainchild of board game publisher Stonemaier Games, which developed Scythe and has already successfully transitioned Scythe to digital. It is a type of board game called Worker Placement Game, in which players use their limited action power each turn to collect and transform resources and achieve various goals. The digital version is by Acram Digital and published by Mobo Studio.

When this game adaptation was first announced, Stonemaier Games said they wanted it to be a top-class adaptation like Playdek's "Lords of Waterdeep"; Acram has definitely delivered, and this is a lovely, cute, and very animated adaptation. The board game has won a number of prestigious awards, including nominations for Golden Geek Board Game of the Year and the Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming. Although I have only played a few hours, this is a game that should be championed as a new standard, and I especially appreciate its understated sound design. Despite a few glitches and quality-of-life fixes, the initial reception from the broader community seems to be quite positive.
