Indie darling Untitled Goose Game won the prestigious Game of the Year award yesterday at the 20th annual GDCA (Game Developers Choice Awards) ceremony.
The house's Goose Hit Game was not the only winner of the grand prize at the virtual awards, which were streamed live because the GDC was postponed until later this year. Other major players included Control, Disco Elysium, and Baba Is You.
Remedy's brutalist third-person shooter won Best Technical, Best Audio, and Best Visual Art, while ZA/UM's prestigious debut project, the dialogue-heavy Disco Elysium, won Best Narrative and Best Debut, and the list of accolades seems to keep growing.
Meanwhile, Hempuli's postmodern puzzle game "Baba Is You" won awards for Innovation and Best Design. Other awards for best mobile game included "What The Golf? Children of the Light" won the audience award.
As for individual awards, Kate Edwards, Executive Director of Global Game Jam, received this year's Ambassador Award." The award "honors those who help move video games forward to a better place through advocacy and action. The Pioneer Award, which "recognizes milestones in groundbreaking technology and game design," went to King's Quest creator Roberta Williams.

Meanwhile, the IGF (Independent Game Festival)'s Schumas McNally Grand Prize went to A Short Hike. The 22nd IGF Awards were also originally scheduled to take place at the GDC.
A Short Hike also won the Audience Award, which is determined by fans through community voting. Other winners were diverse, ranging from mutant soap operas to archaeological puzzles.
Knights and Bikes won for Outstanding Visual Art and Mutazione won for Outstanding Audio. Patrick's Parabox won the Award for Excellence in Design, and Heaven's Vault won the Award for Excellence in Story. Finally, The Nuovo Award went to The Space Between, and Bore Dome was announced as the best student game.
