According to a detailed stream, a major expansion is being added to Division 2: Warlords of New York, a story-driven escape game that will be available for pickup on March 3. It features new gear and weapons, as well as changes to the UI, gear system, dark zones, and level progression.
Warlords of New York takes place in the former Dark Zone in South Manhattan after a disastrous hurricane. Because it is set in the summer, the streets are not covered with snow as they were in the original game.
"In 'Division 2,' we went to a whole new city and continued the story of what was happening to America after the events of the outbreak in New York," says producer Nick Skaar. However, there are many unresolved threads of the story in "Division 1" that were not put together in "Division 2. The goal is to finish the Aaron Keener story and hopefully (if it succeeds) clean up the mess that is Division. It is their responsibility to fix this problem."
The exact square footage has not been disclosed, but it is a 1:1 replica of the Lower Manhattan location. Skaar confirmed that it "covers four named zones: Battery Park, Civic Center, Two Bridges, and the Financial District. There you will find famous New York City landmarks such as Wall Street and Chinatown".
In WoNY, you will be looking for a man named Aaron Keener. He has teamed up with four other rogue agents. To defeat him, you must defeat them all. Each agent has a special skill, which can be learned by showing the boss who he is. Skills include shock traps, echo-based holographic decoys, explosive sticky bombs, and spreading sticky bombs.
The update also includes an RPG overhaul, which will allow users to navigate and manage their gear inventory. The roll ranges for each status of gear and weapons will be visible, and god rolls will be restored. Overall, the gear recalibration system will be more streamlined and help achieve the ideal build, and Scurr said the team "has been working on this for a long time and it makes sense to make all these RPG changes, but at the same time providing people with content to play, unnecessarily not make them feel like they are cutting back on gear."
If you max out your levels, you won't be at the top for long; WoNY has changed the level cap from 30 to 40 and added a new infinite progression system. To play the new expansion, you must be level 30 and in World Tier 5. Thankfully, each edition of the game includes a level 30 boost, which is free if pre-purchased.
So how exactly do you get these rewards, and what does the endgame look like? A season is a three-month themed endgame event in which a new main target is introduced. The first season will begin one week after launch and will offer new activities and rewards alongside the season manhunt. The league will take the form of a series of challenges to unlock rewards, and global events will also return.
Speaking of resurgence, Dark Zone is also returning to its former glory; according to Scurr, Ubisoft wanted to recapture some of the magic of Division 1. With Division 2, we introduced a new system for going rogue, but we wanted to focus on player interaction," Scurr said. So we made it so that becoming a rogue was only about attacking other players and rewarding player-player interaction more, rewarding rogue vs. shade agent fights."
This is a good time for new players to get started in the game while at the same time still being an exciting addition for avid players. Before the new expansion begins, try to avoid boredom by playing Division 2 episode 3, "Coney Island": The Hunt. It will be released tomorrow (February 12) for Annual Pass holders and February 19 for all others.
Returning players can purchase the "Warlords of New York" expansion by itself for $30. Those who have not yet played the game can purchase the Standard Edition for $40 and the Ultimate Edition for $60.
