Horizon Zero Dawn is a game about a woman who somehow manages to beat up dinosaur robots. This is because the game is exclusive to PlayStation 4 and I am not a PS4 Gamer employee. But that may change soon. Not my job situation (I hope), but the PS4 exclusivity: according to an article on Kotaku, the game will be released on PC later this year.
While it's not that unusual for console exclusives to be ported to PC, this case is a bit different from others because Guerrilla Games, the developer of Horizon Zero Dawn, is owned by Sony; Quantic Dreams' " Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: But as Kotaku points out, Horizon Zero Dawn is the first major exclusive title to be released for PC from a Sony-owned studio.
This is not the first time someone has suggested that Horizon Zero Dawn will be released on PC; GamesRadar correctly predicted in December 2019 that Death Stranding would be released for PC, YouTuber Anton Logvinov reportedly said that "Horizon Zero Dawn" would be released for PC this February. Admittedly, the "Death Stranding" statement was not a great insight, and February is only about two weeks away. But Kotaku's report has credibility. [If Horizon Zero Dawn launches on PC, it would be a major turnaround for Sony, which has relied on exclusive titles to promote its consoles and build its user base. Microsoft has been embracing the PC for some time now, which is a more natural fit since Microsoft, among other things, also manufactures Windows. Sony has little incentive to make such a shift, and doing so would represent a real change in strategy going forward. However, it is also very good news for PC gamers.
(Another big plus is that Horizon Zero Dawn is an excellent game. I didn't review it for obvious reasons, but it has an overall Metacritic score of 89/100, which is not zero by any means)
.
Keep in mind that neither Sony nor Guerrilla have made an official announcement, so it's all hypothetical at this point. We have asked both parties for comments and will update if we hear back.
