Skepticism is a thing of the past; Netflix's TV adaptation of The Witcher, which at first seemed hopeless, has become one of our favorite shows of 2019. Henry Cavill did an excellent job of portraying Gerard's meek exterior, and his sword wielding was convincing enough. The series is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher, but naturally draws informal inspiration from CD Projekt's RPG series, which makes the show relevant to us.

If you enjoyed Season 1 as much as we did, we have good news: Season 2 of The Witcher is currently in production, and a third season is almost in the works. Here is a breakdown of Season 2, new characters, plot, and for those who missed Season 1.

Geralt got some pretty chunky armor for season 2. Siri, on the other hand, is dressing down. She seems to have a lot of growing up to do in Kaer Morhen.

Netflix has released a plot teaser for The Witcher season 2." Convinced that Jenefer's life was lost in the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Livia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While continental kings, elves, humans, and demons vie for supremacy outside the walls, he must protect the girl from something more dangerous.

According to showrunner Lauren Hisrich, season two will "delve deeper into Cahill and Fringilla," who have been the nominal villains in the plot so far.

For those who need a refresher before Season 2 or want to make sure they haven't missed anything, Andy Kelley looks back at each episode of The Witcher's first season. With all the major Witcher characters in one place (and time), Hisrich explains in an AMA with fans that the timeline for Season 2 will be easier to follow. Nevertheless, the simplified timeline will allow the writers to use their time in a way they were not able to in Season 1. For example, in Season 2, flashbacks will be used to explore Geralt's past.

A post to the Writer's Guild of America database was discovered by fan blog Redanian Intelligence. In that posting, "The Witcher Season 3 (2020-2021)" was added to executive producer, screenwriter, and showrunner Lauren Hisrich's credits. The Writers Guild of America is a very large union organization, so it is quite unlikely they would make this up. Season 2 was also decided before Season 1 aired, so it is quite plausible.

Witcher follower Redanian Intelligence has some new photos from Season 2 filming.

Four familiar Witcher members have joined the cast for Season 2, two of whom are known to be cast. Geralt's own gray-haired old father Vesemir makes an appearance. Longtime fellow Witcher Eskel will also make an appearance. The sarcastic, obnoxious wizard Lambert is played by Paul Brion, and the foreign transplanted wizard Cohen is played by Yasen Atul.

Vesemir This familiar witcher is played by Kim Bodnia. He is the man who raised Gerard of Livia in Caer Morhen from an early age, and is the oldest Witcher in existence. He made Gerardt the Witcher he is today (literally).

Nivelline. Christopher Hivu has officially been cast as Nivelline in The Witcher Season 2. Fans of the film may recognize the name from the fan-favorite storyline in The Last Wish. Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane in "Game of Thrones," is a near-perfect casting choice.

In this "The Witcher" feature, Henry says what we all think he says. Gerard is a stoic bastard with a genuinely good soul (although he would never say that). He's the classic ronin/enigmatic wanderer type who just wants to do his job and move on, but his ethics often get him into trouble.

Netflix has released official stills from "The Witcher" showcasing Geralt (Henry Cavill), Yenefer (Anya Cholatra), Sheli (Freya Allan), and scenes and characters from the first season.

Lauren Hisrich, showrunner of the "Witcher" series, is optimistic about the show's success and already has plans for six more seasons if all goes well." A second season is not set yet - God willing - but right now it's just a matter of "how to set up a story that will attract viewers for years to come." (This was before the second season was decided upon.) "We've got a lot of work to do," said Hissrich. The last thing you want to do is put all your energy into just season one and not think about how far the characters can go."

If the show returns for more than two seasons, there is plenty of material to pull from, including six novels, two short story collections, and three video games with a wealth of excellent stories.

At least that's what Hisrich is willing to commit to right now; The Wrap reports that an adaptation of the book is the extent of her current aspirations.

"I don't have an extreme long vision. I can only attack one season at a time."[14 What will season 7 be like? I pray it will be."

Hissrich also recently took to Twitter to patiently explain the show's choice to cast more diverse actors to one user. She cited several reasons, one of which was the need to appeal to a global audience, the impact of racism and America's relationship with it on the media produced in this country, and most importantly, the desire to stay true to the spirit of the book rather than the characters. The Witcher is very interesting in its portrayal of racism." What makes a character "other" is the shape of his ears, his height, etc. In the books, no one pays attention to skin color. In a series, no one cares."

It turns out that Cavill actually looked for "The Witcher" after he learned it was being produced.

"I played the game. About five years ago, a game called 'The Witcher 3' was released. I played it to death. I met the showrunner and found out there was a book. I read the book and realized I was missing out on that world. I've been obsessed with the fantasy genre since I was a kid, and my dad read me fantasy books before I could even read."

After the release of Season 1, Cavill further shared his love of PC gaming.

The first season of Netflix's The Witcher was filmed primarily in Eastern Europe.

"We shoot in Eastern Europe. Yes," Hisrich tweeted. 'This show cannot exist anywhere else. Period." Significant filming took place in Hungary, including Budapest. The crew also visited Spain's Canary Islands and, naturally, a castle in Poland.

So far, Season 2 appears to have been filmed in London and elsewhere in the UK.

The Witcher has been a huge success for Netflix. In fact, a new Witcher story will be available on Netflix. The animated film is called The Witcher: it is being produced by Witcher showrunner Lauren Hisrich and Studio Mir (the animation studio behind the new shows "The Legend of Korra" and "Voltron").

According to Netflix, the film "takes us back to the new threats facing the continent." We don't know much more than that, but given that it is already in development, Nightmare of the Wolf will likely be released before the second season of The Witcher. The Witcher already seems like a perfect fit for the dramatic action of the anime. One can already imagine Geralt's flashy sword moves exaggerated in the anime.

Yes, it seems that continuing the Witcher series and producing an animated film is not enough; Netflix has also given the go-ahead for a prequel series exploring the origins of the original Witcher.

"Twelve hundred years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, humans, and elves merged into one and the first Witcher was born," the announcement reads. Lauren Hisrich, showrunner of The Witcher, is co-creating the show with Declan de Barra, who also wrote episodes of the first season.

The Witcher is still dirty.
