"Fallout 76" now has a release date for a free expansion featuring human NPCs; "Fallout 76 Wastelanders" will arrive on PC on April 7.
And with the release of "Wastelanders," "Fallout 76" will finally arrive on Steam the same day. If you haven't clicked yet, watch the new trailer above. I'm sure you've already clicked on it. That's still fine. I would have done the same.
Along with the human NPCs coming to Appalachia (the main factions are raiders living on a crashed space station and settlers living in a fort called the Foundation), Fallout 76 will introduce a new reputation system. The more you gain their trust, the more items and faction-based plans you can purchase from vendors. Companions will also be available, but we haven't heard much about them recently (as far as we know, they will primarily hang around base camp).
The trailer gives us a glimpse of what is to come. We see a ghoul NPC and some sort of scary looking cult group, both of which may represent new minor NPC factions. New creatures also appear, including a flying mutant-like photoprojectile. Icky. In addition, bow and arrows, wrist-mounted saw blades, and what looks like a heavy energy cannon can also be seen closely.
Along with new faction-based main and side quests, the announcement email sent to PC Gamer also states that the original main quest in Fallout 76 has been revamped.
And, at least for me, I can't help but read a bit of the Wastelanders tagline in the trailer: "A new beginning. I have a feeling that it is not only referring to factions starting a new life in Appalachia, but perhaps a new beginning for Fallout 76 players as well. With human NPCs, branching dialogue trees, story-based choices, and a reputation system, "Westlanders" promises to incorporate a bit more of what has made past "Fallout" games so enjoyable.
Additionally, it will be available on Steam, but according to Bethesda's announcement, "If you already have Fallout 76 on Bethesda.net, transferring your Atoms or Fallout 1st membership balance between Bethesda.net and Steam cannot be transferred between Bethesda.net and Steam."
Here is a summary of what you can expect from Fallout 76: According to an email sent to PC Gamer, Wastelanders: [15
