Overwatch's Chinese New Year event returns in 2020 to celebrate the Year of the Rat with a new game mode called CTF Blitz. CTF Blitz is "Capture the Flag" (you got the "CTF" part), but the flags are much closer together than usual placed, usually in locations used for extended games. Because of the increased action due to this proximity, it takes six captures for a team to win, instead of the usual three.
The LNY event will bring back the Weekly Challenge, where players will have the chance to win three different Epic skins by winning nine matches per week for three weeks during the event. Check out:
Monk Doomfist (week 1)
Ancient Chinese Bronze Winston (week 2):
Papercut Wrecking Ball (week 3): [Opera Brigitte, Facechanger Sombra, Mask Dancer Moira, and Samul Nori Lucio, plus three more epic skins and a variety of icons, emotes, and sprays. Cosmetics from past Lunar New Year events are also available for purchase at discounted prices with coins.
The Face Changer Sombra skin looks particularly interesting: this skin is based on the Chinese theatrical art of "Hengmeng," in which performers wear brightly colored masks that change instantly during a performance (there are examples of real Hengmeng on YouTube; see the video below). You can see it in action in the trailer above.
The 2020 Overwatch Chinese New Year event is underway now and will run through February 6. Details can be found at playoverwatch.com, and you can see some of the new cosmetics below.
